Serious gaming offers an engaging way to experience how data-driven decisions influence infrastructure management. In this interactive workshop, Ruben Ogink and Koen van Oijen from Hello New Day demonstrated how realistic scenarios and collaborative gameplay can help professionals better understand the role of data in managing critical infrastructure.
Using a serious game centred on movable bridges, participants explored how data and collaboration can strengthen asset management and why data-driven working across the entire infrastructure chain is essential to help prevent failures and improve decision-making.
The second part of the workshop featured a serious game developed by Rijkswaterstaat, challenging participants to make strategic decisions on maintenance, costs and asset lifetime. Together with the audience, new scenarios were created and explored in real time, allowing participants to immediately apply insights and experience the consequences of different choices.
The workshop illustrated how serious gaming provides a safe and practical environment in which professionals can experiment with complex infrastructure challenges, strengthen collaboration and gain a deeper understanding of the impact of data-driven decision-making on asset management.
