We are BEPROACT. Our goal? We are building an ecosystem to proactively develop data-driven asset management.
In a rapidly changing Europe, with ageing infrastructure, escalating demand on highways, bridges, water systems, traffic networks and buildings, and increasing pressures from extreme weather and digital-risk exposures, our infrastructure and digital networks must become smarter, more resilient, and more efficient.
Talking assets
BEPROACT addresses this by enabling infrastructure owners, asset-managers and innovation partners to transition from reactive maintenance to a new paradigm: ‘talking assets’, which is infrastructure that senses, analyses and communicates its condition for proactive strategic data-driven asset management decision making.
This transformation poses common challenges for the actors in this arena. BEPROACT is the first transnational project to tackle these challenges, producing an accessible and replicable pathway with key instruments, tools and services to lengthen asset lifecycles, prevent failures, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance resilience and safety, while upskilling human capital.
Our key outcome areas
1. Data-Driven Asset Management Strategy
A structured framework using the Data Enrichment Cycle for capturing, analysing and acting on infrastructure data. This framework guides infrastructure owners in strategic maintenance and renewal decision making to meet resilience and continuity of asset performance obligations (as set by the EU CER and NIS2) and to contribute to digital transformation goals.
2. Digital and Replicable Solutions
Fifteen innovative, data-based solutions are being developed and tested across six asset types (highways, bridges, tunnels, buildings, water systems, traffic networks). These solutions support the digital transition towards predictive and efficient maintenance and resource optimization.
3. Shared Knowledge Network and Training Portfolio
BEPROACT establishes a transnational network of asset managers, innovators and policymakers. In addition, it co-creates trainings and provides integral guidance to build human capital. This strengthens digital and infrastructure resilience by equipping professionals with the skills to implement, interpret and act on ‘talking assets’ and promote the uptake of data-driven methods.
4. Pilot Cases & Action Plan for Implementation
The portfolio of pilot cases demonstrates how the innovations, new tools and methods can be applied in real-life asset management. These pilots inform a shared action plan, creating a replicable framework that supports consistent, transparent and proactive asset management.
5. Ecosystem for Collaboration & Long-Term Impact
By aligning data, tools and expertise across organisations and borders, BEPROACT builds a collaborative ecosystem that strengthens territorial, infrastructure and digital resilience, reduces costs, extends asset lifecycles, and supports Europe’s Digital Decade’s objective of resilient, highperforming digital and physical infrastructure.
Looking ahead
BEPROACT’s approach strengthens resilience, improves safety, and reduces costs and environmental impact. It marks an important transition from reactive maintenance to proactive, data-enriched and resilient asset management. Ultimately, BEPROACT aims to embed the project’s results among infrastructure managers and innovation knowledge institutions in North-West Europe and beyond to create more intelligent, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure.
