Building the Future of Resilient Infrastructure – Together
BEPROACT Interreg North-West Europe is the first transnational project dedicated to addressing one of today’s most pressing challenges: ensuring that critical infrastructure assets—ranging from highways and traffic systems to water facilities and the built environment—remain reliable, safe, and future-proof.
As many infrastructure assets approach end-of-life, public authorities face increasing pressure from skills shortages and constrained budgets. BEPROACT responds to this challenge by bringing together partners from across North-West Europe to jointly develop and implement data-driven, proactive asset management solutions. These innovations enable so-called “talking assets” to predict their condition, prevent failures, extend asset lifespans, reduce costs, and support safer and more sustainable infrastructure management.
From innovation to impact
Across six asset categories—Highways & Pavements, Bridges, Intelligent Transport Systems, Water Systems, Water Treatment, and the Built Environment—16 pilot cases are progressing from Proof of Concept to Test and Validation under WP2 – Smart Assets. These solutions are already demonstrating how proactive and timely maintenance can strengthen organisational maturity in Data-Driven Asset Management (DDAM).
Empowering people
People and skills remain central to BEPROACT. Within WP3 – Smart People, partners have developed six asset-specific training schemes and the first draft of a generic DDAM Training Guidance. Together, these outputs support Europe-wide upskilling for engineers, asset managers, and public authorities, ensuring that technological innovation is matched by organisational capability.

Through collaboration supported by the EU Interreg North-West Europe co-funding programme, BEPROACT continues to advance innovation, knowledge exchange, and the future of data-driven asset management and critical infrastructure resilience.
