Croi Heart & Stroke Charity
Address : Moyola Lane, /, H91 FF68 , Galway, Éire/Ireland (IE) H91 FF68 Galway
Croí will bring its accumulated experience, across almost 40 years of activity in the Heart Disease &
Stroke area, with and for communities across the West of Ireland, to this project. Croí will lead on the
local pilot in Galway, and in doing so will optimise its wider network and relationships with the Local
Authorities, NW Regional Assembly, the public health authority, universities, existing first responder
groups and its broader network of volunteers and organisations in the public, private and NGO sectors.
Croí has secured the agreement of Galway City Council to become an Associated Organisation,
supportive of the pilot project, and also has strong relationships with elected representatives at local
and national level.
One of Croí’s principal activities has been Community Cardiac First Responder training and we have
successfully delivered this to thousands of people across the West of Ireland. Croí has also worked
closely with communities to support the deployment of AEDs at public/community locations and have
built a strong reputation and partnership across the community & voluntary sector. It is suggested that
Galway, as a regional city of 80,000 inhabitants, with a very diverse population demographic, and a
relatively compact urban core, is an ideal location to pilot the Dutch Heart-Safe model, and learn from
this best-practice knowledge transfer.
