EasyWIM

Accurate vehicle weight monitoring is essential for keeping roads in good condition. However, traditional Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) systems rely on invasive and expensive sensors embedded in the pavement. The easyWIM pilot introduces a groundbreaking, non-invasive solution that estimates vehicle weight through roadside seismic measurements.

An array of 3D geophones placed along the hard shoulder captures ground vibrations from passing vehicles. These signals are then processed by a deep learning system, easyWIM-Net, which combines vibration data with vehicle speed to accurately predict vehicle weight.

This innovative, data-driven approach eliminates the need to cut into the pavement, making it a faster, more cost-effective, and easier-to-maintain alternative to traditional systems. The easyWIM solution has demonstrated high accuracy, particularly for heavy commercial vehicles, which are most critical for road monitoring and weight enforcement.

By enabling precise weight detection without disrupting traffic or damaging road surfaces, this pilot represents a major step forward in smart, data-driven infrastructure management. It helps authorities make better maintenance decisions and ensure longer-lasting roads.
